Jordan: new patent law

On June 16, 2017, the amended Jordanian Patent Law published in the Official Gazette a month earlier entered into force.
The implemented law foresees:
- The option of online filing with the Jordanian IP Office;
- Publication of a patent application within eighteen months as of the filing/priority date instead of publication after a patent has been granted, which accelerates patent data availability;
- The possibility to withdraw a patent application before the stage of grant.
The new provisions bring Jordanian IP legislation in higher conformity with international intellectual property treaties, which is especially relevant in view of Jordan’s accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
