  • Term for filing the patent application in Uzbekistan

The deadline for filing a patent application in Uzbekistan claiming priority is 12 months from the date of priority. This term may be extended for 2 months after the expiration of the 12-months period.

  • Minimum filing requirements in Uzbekistan

- A request to grant a patent containing information about the applicant(s) and inventor(s);
- description, claims, and abstract of the invention;
- drawings, if any.

  • Language of the Uzbek patent application

An application should be filed in the Uzbek or Russian language. If the application is filed in any other foreign language, the translation into Uzbek or Russian thereof should be provided within two months from the date of filing.

  • Priority document

A certified copy of the priority document should be provided within three months from the date of filing the application. The priority application should be translated into Uzbek or Russian.

  • Power of Attorney requirements

A simply signed Power of Attorney should be provided simultaneously with filing the application in case the applicant is a natural person. If the applicant is a legal entity, a signed and stamped Power of Attorney should be provided to the Uzbek patent Office upon filing the application. Official legalization or notarization of the PoA is not required.

  • Substantive examination 

A request for conducting substantive examination should be filed within three years from the filing date of the patent application in Uzbekistan.

  • Grant and maintenance fee

Official grant fees should be paid within three months from the date of issuance of Notice of Allowance. The first post-grant annuities starting from the 3rd year should be paid within said term as well. All subsequent annuities are counted from the filing date and are to be paid before the anniversary of the filing date.

  • Representation by a patent attorney

For foreigners, it is necessary to perform patent prosecution in Uzbekistan through an agent, a registered Uzbek patent attorney.
