Belarus: new fees to be implemented
On January 1, 2017, the Belarusian National Centre for Intellectual Property will implement new fees for registration of various intellectual property types.
The overall fee structure will be subject to significant changes in connection with de-dollarization of Belarusian economy. As a result the fee schedule will be transferred from dollars to the national currency – New Belarusian rubles (BYN). The fees will be tied to Belarusian basic rates. Currently, a basic rate equals twenty-three New Belarusian rubles. Foreign applicants will have to pay the fee amount in a foreign currency (US dollars, Euros or Russian rubles) in accordance with the actual currency exchange rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus.
Nearly all fees will be raised. The average increase will constitute about 15%. The only fee that will be reduced is the fee for trademark examination. However, the overall cost for trademark registration will increase. Please see the changes in the fees for main stages of IP rights registration below.
