Belarus: Patent Law Treaty implementation

On October 21, 2016, the Patent Law Treaty (PLT) entered into force in Belarus.

Therefore, filing date requirements were standardized in accordance with the provisions of the PLT. Starting from the said date applicants have to submit the following documents to get the filing date of the application:

• request to grant a patent (utility model patent)
• description of the invention (utility model)
• drawings, if any

No additional documents can be required for establishing the filing date. If the listed documents are not submitted simultaneously, the filing date will be established on the date of filing of the last document. Previously, for obtaining filing date an applicant was obliged to submit patent claims as well.
