Ecuador: Reforms in the Intellectual Property sphere

Commission of Justice and Structure of Ecuador approved amendments to the Criminal Code stipulating criminal offences for violation of the intellectual property rights on August 25, 2015. Said amendments are pending until consideration of the President of the Republic of Ecuador which should take place within 30 days after Commission’s approval.

Implementation of this reform is the necessary action aimed to prevent counterfeiting and piracy in Ecuador and to provide relevant protection and enforcement of industrial property.
