IPOPHL signs bilateral agreement with IP office of Singapore

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has agreed to cooperate with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) in a Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) programme after signing the Memorandum of Bilateral Cooperation. This cooperation agreement will look to promote the Intellectual Property system in Singapore and the Philippines by ensuring that applicants can obtain their patent rights at a much more efficient rate.

The PPH is a programme between Intellectual Property Offices that allows applicants to request an accelerated examination of a corresponding application based on the examination results issued by a different patent office. An examination by a corresponding Intellectual Property Office can make reference to the work products of other Offices during a substantive examination which makes the process much quicker.

This arrangement is an addition to IPOPHL's previous PPH arrangements with the Intellectual Property Offices of the USA, Japan, Korea and Europe. IPOS also has PPH agreements with Europe as well as China and Mexico. IPOS is also a member of the pilot Global Patent Prosecution Highway (GPPH) programme which allows patent applicants in Singapore to request an accelerated examination at any of the 23 other Intellectual Property Offices that are involved in this pilot programme. The GPPH programme uses a single set of requirements, for the examination of patent applications, which ensures that the examination process is simplified and more accessible to applicants.
