Memorandums of Understanding

May 2017 has been marked with several bilateral memorandums of understanding signed between the IP Offices of various countries of the world.

Thus, during the visit of the Argentine IP delegation (INPI) to the European Patent Office (EPO) on May 9-10, a co-operation agreement was signed by the EPO and INPI Presidents. Said Memorandum of Understanding covers the fields of patent data exchange and patent databases and joint activities in the fields of search and examination, and patent procedures on the whole.

On May 16, 2017, the EPO President met the Director General of the Institute of Industrial Property of Angola (IAPI). Since this was the first visit of the IAPI representatives to the EPO, it opened a new era in the EPO-IAPI cooperation. It was agreed to launch a full-range cooperation program which includes, among the others, validation of European patents in Angola. Within the said program EPO also intends to provide technical assistance, thus, supporting innovations and development of patent system in Angola in general and helping to bring the IAPI in line with other world IP Offices. In the meantime, the IAPI-EPO cooperation may also encourage European patent owners’ interest in Angolan market.

On May 18, 2017, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Presidents of the Singaporean and the Hungarian IP Offices during the visit of the Singaporean IP delegation to Hungary. The Memorandum aims to bring cooperation between the countries on a higher level and includes experience and patent data exchange.
