Multiple design applications (up to 50) may be filed in Hungary.

Filing requirements in Hungary
The official language of the proceedings before the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office is Hungarian.
To obtain the date of filing, it is necessary to provide the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office with:
- request for a design registration;
- applicant’s details;
- representation of a design.
The original of the Priority Document shall be filed within four months after the date of filing.
A simply signed Power of Attorney must be submitted to the HIPO.
It is necessary to file the Assignment Deed certifying the applicant’s right to apply if the applicant is not the author of the industrial design.
Convention priority should be claimed within 6 months after the priority date.

Examination of a design application in Hungary
Design applications in Hungary are examined automatically by the Office. The examination process includes formal and substantive examination. The Office will also conduct a novelty search and send the results to the applicant.
In Hungary, the novelty grace period of 12 months is stipulated for the following disclosures:
- the disclosure resulted from abuse in relation to the applicant or his legal predecessor;
- the disclosure was made by the applicant, his predecessor it title or a third party if the information was provided by the applicant or his predecessor in title.
Besides, a disclosure would be disregarded if the design was disclosed to a third person under the conditions of confidentiality.

Grant, validity term and design renewal fees
No official grant fee is to be paid, further to the application fee. A registered design in Hungary is valid for five years from the date of filing. Design registration may be renewed four times for further periods of five years with the maximum protection period being 25 years from the filing date. The request for renewal shall be filed within 6 months before the expiration of the validity term or within a further grace period of six months.

Duration of registration procedure
If prosecution process runs smoothly, design registration takes an average of 8 months.

Representation by a patent attorney
For foreign applicants not residing in the European Economic Area (EEA), it is necessary to perform design registration procedure through an agent, a registered Hungarian attorney.
